Wheel of Fortune Winners Travel from Las Vegas to Support The Carers Association Mini Marathon
With participants from all over Kilkenny and Carlow taking part in the 10th anniversary of the upcoming mini marathon, veteran runners Kevin and Jennifer Gordon are travelling 5000 miles from Las Vegas to Kilkenny to show their support for The Carers Association’s Mini Marathon on Monday May 5th at 11.00 am.
The Carers Association are hoping that this event will raise much needed funds for their Kilkenny and Carlow centre that provides essential support to some 6,200 local carers and their families. They are urging families from Kilkenny, Carlow and surrounding areas to make a day of it on May 5th and have fun by running or walking in the Mini Marathon that will support local families who rely on the assistance of The Carers Association.
Having won a trip to Ireland on TV game show Wheel of Fortune, running enthusiasts Kevin and Jennifer Gordon will travel from their hometown of Las Vegas to participate in this year’s Mini Marathon, along with charity patron, RTÈ broadcaster, Mary Kennedy. Jennifer, whose parents own an assisted living centre in Oklahoma said, “We are excited to run the Mini Marathon in support of The Carers Association. We understand first-hand the challenges that they face and have the greatest admiration for carers who need to have the sweetest disposition and authentic love, care and respect for those they care for. We enjoy running for our health but we are well-aware that one day we may depend on that same kind of care.”
Nora O’ Gorman, Kilkenny Carer of the Year, explains that funds raised through the Mini Marathon significantly improves the well-being of the carers and enable them to provide the best possible care to their dependents “to help break down the feeling of isolation and provide support groups and essential respite.”
Suitable for all fitness and experience levels The Carers Associations Mini Marathon will cater for runners, walkers and families. Setting off from the Aspect Hotel at 11am on Monday May 5th, participants can choose from a 10K chipped (timed) run or a 5k run or walk for more relaxed participants. The route will take participants along the Waterford Road, winding out into the Kilkenny countryside and returning to the car park at the Aspect Hotel.
