Two out of three people say their weight affects confidence

A leading Carlow based Training Company have conducted a survey amongst a pool of 200 people to examine to effect which their weight has on their lifestyle and general well-being.

Barrow Training and Consultancy have launched a new course which will be the first of its kind in the country to take an all-encompassing approach to health and well-being.

The New LEAF Programme, will focus on; Lifestyle, Empowerment, Attitude and Food, as a way of enabling participants to move forward with a new found approach and value for their personal well-being which will lead them towards a healthier and happier lifestyle with long term weight loss results. Having noticed important gaps in the offerings of large multi-national weight-loss groups, company director Marian Manning set about bringing together an expert advisory group.

The survey revealed that;

  • Two out of every three people are not happy with their current weight.
  • Two out of three also say that their weight affects their confidence.
  • One in three people have tried more than five different exercise regimes or diets over the past two years to lose weight.
  • Just half of those surveyed understand the nutritional content of their food.
  • Almost two thirds of the respondents do not understand food labelling.

“The New LEAF Programme is the first of its kind in Ireland to take a comprehensive and practical approach, encompassing all the elements that lead to effective and long-lasting changes for individuals. It will offer people, who have struggled to change their exercise, eating and sleeping habits, an opportunity to transform their lifestyle” says Marian Manning.

The programme will focus on the different elements of a healthy lifestyle, understanding and taking charge of your own health, understanding the science behind nutrition, the importance of physical activity, attitude and behaviour changes along with the importance of sleep to your mental health.

The New LEAF Programme will be delivered by a nutritionist and nurse, along with guest experts from the advisory panel, who will work with participants to show the connection between attitude, mental wellbeing, exercise and nutrition in developing a holistic approach to their own well-being.
