More than 15 local producers to feature at Savour Kilkenny

Four emerging local artisan producers launch their business at 10th anniversary festival

Kilkenny’s local artisan food producers will be well represented at this year’s Savour Kilkenny 2016 – Festival of Food over the bank holiday weekend from October 28th to 31st. Celebrating a decade of delicious dining and demos in Kilkenny City over 30,000 people are expected to attend the 10th anniversary festival.

More than 15 Kilkenny based artisan producers will join the festivities for Savour Kilkenny including Breagagh Valley Artisan Meats, a small Kilkenny based company specializing in artisan smoked sausages, KD Cakes, a start-up bakery who specialise in raspberry drizzle squares decorated with chocolate, and Thomastown’s  ‘The Truffle Fairy’ by Mary Teehan. Mary will also celebrate her 10th year at the festival having participated each year since it was founded.

Four local producers will launch their food businesses at Savour Kilkenny in association with Kilkenny LEADER Partnerships (KLP). The recent entrants into the food arena will introduce their products to the customer, receive feedback and make contacts in the sector. Each year KLP launch the careers of Kilkenny’s emerging food producers at the festival to grow, encourage and foster the local food industry. New producers to this year’s festival include Pete Crosbie, ‘Spoon Me’ preserves and Olivia Lyng – Livee’s Raw Treats.

Other Kilkenny producers include Yindees Downtown, Mediterranean Street Food, Cakeface Pastry, Bart’s Belgian Chocolates, Goatsbridge Trout Farm, Mileeven Fine Foods, Mary’s Kitchen, The Little Mill Company and Speltbakers.

“We are delighted to welcome so many local food producers to Savour Kilkenny. The quality of the local artisan food industry is exceptional. The festival attracts visitors from all over Ireland and we look forward to welcoming food lovers and families to enjoy the demonstrations, exhibits, foodie activities and more” said Marian Flannery, Festival Director, Savour Kilkenny.

A festival first, Savour Kilkenny has teamed up with Gill Books to feature exclusive demonstrations by some of Ireland’s most popular authors. Highlights include ‘Cooking for Christmas’ by world renowned Darina Allen and her brother Rory O’ Connell of Ballymaloe Cookery School as well Rosanna Davison; Paula Mee and Kate O’ Brien on ‘Your Middle Years’ alongside popular Irish TV Chef Stuart O’ Keeffe.

Amongst the special guest at this year’s event will be festival favourites Anne Neary, founding member of Savour Kilkenny and festival MC Edward Hayden.  The duo are teaming up to present ‘What’s your Beef’ and prove that the traditional British dish ‘Beef Wellington’ is much better and even tastier when made using Irish Beef.

With most events free, other festival highlights will see Jason Byrne present ‘Comedy and Cocktails’, a packed children’s programme, the Global Kitchen – the best of world cuisine cooked in Kilkenny and the very popular Craft Beer and Distillers Pavilion, likened to a mini ‘Oktoberfest’ with DJ and artisan street food.
